PS124. Effects of desipramine, venlafaxine and bupropion on depression and anxiety in the forced swimming test and elevated plus maze test in mice

چکیده
Specific objective of the study: This study is aimed to investigate desipramine, venlafaxine and bupropion on depression and anxiety in mice. Methods used: We used a classic tricyclic antidepressant, desipramine; a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitör, venlafaxine; a second-generation antidepressant agent that blocks centrally the reuptake of noradrenaline and dopamine, bupropion in forced swimming test (FST), elevated plus maze test (EPM) and open field test. Summary of results: Imipramine (30 mg/kg), desipramine (7.5 mg/kg and 15 mg/kg), venlafaxine (4 mg/kg and 8 mg/kg), bupropion (20 mg/kg and 40 mg/kg) significantly reduced immobility time dose dependently, compared to vehicle-treated group. And also bupropion (40 mg/kg) exerted significant antidepressant-like effects in the mice FST which was more effective than imipramine. Diazepam (2 mg/kg), desipramine (7.5 mg/kg and 15 mg/kg), venlafaxine (4 mg/kg and 8 mg/kg), bupropion (20 mg/kg and 40 mg/ kg) significantly increased the time spent in the open arms dose dependently, compared to the vehicle-treated group. Diazepam (2 mg/kg), desipramine (7.5 mg/kg and 15 mg/kg), venlafaxine 8 mg/kg) and bupropion (20 mg/kg and 40 mg/kg) significantly increased the number of entries into the open arms, compared to the vehicle-treated group. And also bupropion (40 mg/kg) exerted significant anxiolytic-like effects in the mice EPM test which was more effective than diazepam. None of the drugs modified the total distance moved in the open field test. Conclusions reached: desipramine, venlafaxine and bupropion (20 mg/kg) exerted significant antidepressant-like effects which was as effective as imipramine. And also bupropion (40 mg/kg) exerted significant antidepressant-like effects which was more effective than imipramine. Again, desipramine, venlafaxine and bupropion (20 mg/kg) exerted significant anxiolytic-like effects which was as effective as diazepam. And also bupropion (40 mg/ kg) exerted significant anxiolytic-like effects which was more effective than diazepam. متن کاملThe effect of nobiletin on behavioral function in elevated plus maze and forced swimming tests in intrahippocampal amyloid beta-induced model of Alzheimer's disease in the rat
Background and Objective: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia that is considered a chronic and progressive syndrome, that leads to the irreversible loss of neurons, particularly in the cortex and hippocampus. In this study, we considered whether nobiletin has any effect on behavioral function in elevated plus maze and forced swimming tests in amyloid beta-induced model ...
متن کاملPistachio Extract Improves Neurocognitive Behaviors in Ovariectomized Mice
Background and objectives: Menopause is associated with depression as well as emotional and memory disorders. Based on the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects of pistachio, its effect on depression, cognitive function, anxiety and physical power in ovariectomized mice was investigated. Methods: In the current study, fifty female mice were used. They were ...
متن کاملRepeated systemic administration of the cinnamon essential oil possesses anti-anxiety and anti-depressant activities in mice
Objective(s): The present study aimed to evaluate the putative antidepressant and anti-anxiety effects of the cinnamon essential oil when administered acute (for 3 doses) and sub-acute (for 14 days) to mice. Materials and Methods: In an acute experimental study, forced swim test (FST) was conducted to evaluate the antidepressant-like behavior of animals treated with the intraperitoneal (IP) ess...
متن کاملNMDA glutamate receptor inhibition in the dorsal hippocampus reduced the maintenance of electric foot shock stress -induced anxiety and depression like behaviors in mice
Introduction: In the present study, the effect of inhibition of glutamate NMDA receptors located in the dorsal hippocampus on the maintenance of anxiety and depression like behaviors induced by electric foot shock stress was investigated. Materials and Methods: NMARI male mice were divided into two categories. The first category received electro foot shock for 30 minutes after injection of mema...
